قبل أن تصل هذه السيارة إلى الأسواق في شهر مارس (آذار) المقبل سبقتها أحكام المطبوعات الأوروبية المتخصصة التي جربها مراسلوها. فالجيل الجديد من سيارة «سي كلاس» من «مرسيدس بنز» يحمل الكثير من التكنولوجيا الخاصة بالاتصالات، كما يتمتع بقدر كبير من الأمان، وبخفض هائل في استخدام الوقود يفوق الثلاثين في المائة، ولكنه مع ذلك باهظ الثمن بالمقارنة إلى المنافسة ويفتقر إلى دقة التصميم الداخلي الذي تتمتع به منافسات مثل الفئة الثالثة من «بي إم دبليو»، كما أن انتشار البلاستيك في أرجائها الداخلية يعطي الانطباع بأن الراكب يدخل سيارة آسيوية وليس سيارة «مرسيدس بنز». إضافة إلى ذلك ما زالت السيارة تستخدم مكابح القدم العتيقة في عصر أضحت فيه تقنية المكابح الإلكترونية هي الأمر السائد.

وسوف تطرح السيارة في الأسواق في فئتين منها واحدة (إيليغانس) معدة لراحة الركاب والأخرى رياضية اسمها «سبور» بتعليق منخفض وقاس يزيد من قدرات المناورات الرياضية الحادة، ولكن على حساب راحة الركاب. وجميع سيارات القطاع تحمل نظام تعليق فعالا ومتغيرا من أجل التعامل الأمثل مع ظروف الطريق وأسلوب القيادة.
وتأتي «سي كلاس» كالعادة بمجموعة كبيرة من المحركات أصغرها يحمل رقم 180 وهو بترولي بأربع اسطوانات وقدرة 154 حصانا، وأكبرها هو «سي 350» بست اسطوانات وقدرة 268 حصانا. وهناك أيضا أربعة محركات ديزل لأسواق أوروبا. ولاحظ مجربو السيارة أن محرك الديزل الصغير هو أكثرها ضوضاء عند التشغيل خصوصا في ظروف التسارع.
افتتحت الشركة عمليات الحجز على سيارات الجيل الجديد ابتداء من 10 يناير (كانون الثاني) الحالي، وهي تأمل أن تكرر بها قصة نجاح «سي كلاس» في جيلها السابق التي باعت منها الشركة منذ طرحها في الأسواق عام 2007، نحو مليون سيارة. وتعد هذه السيارة حيوية لشركة «مرسيدس بنز» لأنها الأكثر مبيعا بين طرازاتها. وكانت فئة «سي كلاس» قد بدأت في عام 1982 كبديل لفئة صغيرة اسمها «190» ومنذ ذلك الحين باعت الشركة منها ما يفوق الـ8.5 مليون سيارة وحققت بها الكثير من الجوائز. والواضح أن الشركة خصت التصميم الخارجي بالكثير من الجهد فجاء أكثر حدة من سابقه إلى درجة تقاربها من منافساتها من سيارات «بي إم دبليو». وتهدف الشركة من ذلك إلى جذب فئة أصغر عمرا من المشترين لسيارات هذا الجيل الجديد.
