اللواء عمر سليمان (73 عاما) من مواليد محافظة قنا. انضم إلى الجيش عام 1954، ثم أرسل في بعثة ليتلقى العلوم العسكرية في أكاديمية فرونزي بموسكو بالاتحاد السوفياتي السابق. ولدى اللواء سليمان مؤهلات علمية وعسكرية، فهو حاصل على ماجستير في العلوم العسكرية، إضافة إلى ماجستير في العلوم السياسية من جامعة القاهرة.

مناصب سابقة
- رئيس فرع التخطيط العام في هيئة عمليات القوات المسلحة.
- مدير المخابرات العسكرية.
- رئيس جهاز المخابرات العامة المصرية بدءا من 1991 حتى الآن.

سجل عسكري
المشاركة في حرب اليمن.
المشاركة في حرب يونيو/ حزيران 1967
المشاركة في حرب أكتوبر/ تشرين الأول 1973.

الاستخبارات
بدأت صلة اللواء سليمان بالاستخبارات منتصف الثمانينيات حينما عين قائدا للمخابرات العسكرية، ليتسلم بعد ذلك رئاسة جهاز الاستخبارات العامة سنة 1993.

البروز سياسيا
ظل اللواء سليمان معروفا لفترة طويلة في أوساط المخابرات المصرية المختلفة، ليبدأ منذ العام 2000 ظهوره العلني عبر سلسلة الجولات الخارجية بين غزة ورام الله والقدس وتل أبيب ممثلا للوساطة المصرية في القضية الفلسطينية.

وهو يقوم كذلك بأدوار دبلوماسية من خلال عدد من المحطات، منها زيارته لسوريا بعد مقتل رئيس الوزراء الراحل رفيق الحريري، كما قاد وساطات عديدة أخرى بين حركتي حماس وفتح.

وقام بالوساطة أيضا سنة 2006 لحل قضية اختطاف الجندي الإسرائيلي جلعاد شاليط عبر الاتصالات المتعددة مع كل من إسرائيل والحكومة الفلسطينية وقيادة حماس.

انه بكل بساطة الوجه الحقيقي للنظام المصري حكم عسكري تعسفي من الدرجة الاولى

في نظري ان المخابرات المصرية ترتكب اخطاء كبيرة جدا بتعيينها للواء عمر سليمان المنسق مع اسرائيل مند مدة طويلة
و قد يثير هدا التعيين عدة تساؤلات على الساحة العربية و يحرض بطريقة مباشرة الاسلاميين و حقوقيين
