قرر صاحب مزرعة-ومن أجل سلامة نسل الطيور- أن لا تطير خارج أسوارمزرعته.وأوضح
أن كل طائر منها يثبت في حقه أنه قد طار، فسيعاقب بنتف ريشه،وسينتف
أمام الملأ ريشة ريشة نكالا له على جرمه وتهديده
سلامة بقية المجتمع من ذوات المنقار. وعشية صدور القرار بادر الديك الهندي لمباركة
وتثمين العبقرية الحكيمة..وألقى كلمة موجزة عبر فيها عن جهله، عن جهله طريقة وصف
فرحته وفرحة بني جنسه. أما الغراب والذي كان قد عين رئيس جمعية الرفق بالبلابل، فقد
تبنى القرارأكثر مما تبنى أبناءه فقال:
إن الطيران أخ الخيال، وابن عم الابتكار، وإني أرى صاحبهما في غمرات النار..أرى أن يشوى
الطائر في النار إذا طار.
صاح وفد البطاريق الحاضرة بصوت واحد كلونها وشكلها:
النـــــــــــــار...النار...النار. فضحك صاحب المزرعة حتى سال لعابه: كلكم للنار ومديتي
ستقطعكم سواء شكرتم أم كنتم من الكفار.
سمعت أصوات دجاجات في الخم وهي تنهار، وباض ديك بشّار..كان حسن الصوت وصار
كثير الصمت حتى عافته ربابة ربة البيت، فخرجت عند زوجها رب المزرعة مقطبة الجبين
حيرانة، وبغنج رجته ألا يقسو على الطيو. قالت:
لم أعد اعرف الاناث من الذكور...الدجاجات
احتجت، والديكة باضت وانتحبت. نظر إليها الديك الهندي وهو يعدل ربطة عنقه الحمراء
التي تدلت من كثرة المديح بلا خجل فقال:
إن الطيران مفسدة . ثم زم منقاره.
وعند المغيب اجتمعت أمة الطير تشهد أول المعاقبين وآخر المحلقين...كان بلبلا صغيرا لم
يصدق قرار الكبار فجرب وطار..إبان المحاكمة تدخل الببغاء، وكانت له بالجاني قرابة ريش
وأوكار، فأخبر الجمع مستعطفا أن قريبه لم يطر بعد وإنما فكر...أن يطير...من باب
التعلم والفضول لا أكثر.
فصاحت البطاريق مدندنة:
إن التفكيــــــر طيراااااااان
إن التفكيــــــر طيرااااااان
حينها تدخل زوج ربابة.وقال بعد أن ركل بطريقا منافقا كان على يساره:
سأقطع جناحه ومنقار المحامي الببغاء. سيتعلم كيف يفكر إذا فكر أن يفكربالتحليق...ثم
التفت عن يمينه، فركعت البطاريق للبلاغة،ورفعت الديكة بيضها نحو عين الشمس .فلاحظت
ربابة أن بيضها أكبر من بيض النعام في حيّ سكني تعرفه. رفع إليها الغراب عينه بعناد وصاح:
لن تساعده الجمعية حتى لا تتورط..ووجه كلامه إلى كاتب القصة عاتبا...لقد سمعتك.نعم
سأتبنى قرار النتف أتريدني خارجا عن إجماع الجماعة؟
تشجعت البطاريق المنافقة والديكة المهزوزة وأضاف الديك الهندي :
لا تنسى أن الطيران يورث الهم،ما بالك بطائر يطير فيرى عوالم تعجبه غير المزرعة
فينقلب جاحدا بالنعمة لابس ثوب الحسد والنقمة؟أو أن تصيبه رصاصة؟أو يجوع بعيدا عن
ربابة.
لابد أن تفكروا في اسم جديد إذن.أجاب الكاتب ما دامت الطيور لا تطير..ثم وقع القصة باسم بلبل .
