رحمه الله رحمة واسعة، وحشره مع النبيين والصديقين والشهداء والصالحين وحسن أولئك رفيقا اغتالت يد الطغيان الاستعماري، بطلا من خير أبطال العرب ورأسا من أعظم رؤوسهم، ومجاهدا كان يقف في طليعة مجهديهم، وصنديدا غالبته الأيام فغلبها وصارعته الحوادث فصارعها، وحاربته دولة من أكبر دول الأرض بجنودها ودباباتها وطياراتها، فثبت أمامها ثبات الراسيات، متذرعا بالإيمان متحصنا بقوة العزيمة معتدا بالله، ولطالما انتصر واظفر، ولطالما انكسر وانحدر، فما زاده النصر إلا العزيمة وما زاده الانحدار إلا ثباتا، واعتكف على قتال المعتدين الظالمين وحوش الاستعمار الإيطالي فكان في حربهم شريفا مسلما مستميت ساعة الملحمة، رؤوف حليم ساعة وضع الحرب لأوزارها ذلك هو سيدي زعيم عمر المختار السنويين ببرقية، الذي جاهد عشرين عاما دفاعا عن بيضة الإسلام وكرامة الوطن ضد الطغاة المستعبدين.
ولم تترك السلطة الإيطالية من وسيلة سافلة وحشية إلا ارتكبتها لإخماد مقاومته فأغلقت سائر زوايا السنوسية في البلاد وصادرت أملاكها ثم حاصرت ثمانين ألفا من بقايا السكان الذين نجوا من المذابح وفضائع القتال الإيطالي، ضمن منطقة محطة بالأسلاك الشائكة كيلا يلتحقوا بعمر المختار، أقامت على التخوم المصرية حراسة شديدة جدا وصنديد برقة رانص لا يأخذه في سبيل الله ضعف ولا وهن وكان يجول في ميادين القتال ممتطيا صهوة جواده الاهدم ، ولقد وهن عظمه ولم يتدارك الوهن قلبه، واشتعل رأسه شيبا واكتست لحيته لون القمر وما استطاعت الثمانون عاما التي اقتداها في طاعة الله وجهاد في سبيله أن تقوس له ظهرا وتضعوا له هامة .إلى أن أقام له الإيطاليون كمينا فأسروه اثر قتال عنيف، أبت الوحشية الإيطالية إلا أن تقيم برهانا جديدا على فقدها كل شرف وتجردها عن كل عاطفة نبيلة، فحكمت عليه حالا بالإعدام ونفدت ذلك الحكم ونفدت ذلك الحكم رميا بالرصاص .
إلا في سبيل الله تلك الروح الطاهرة النقية التي رجعت إلى ربها راضية مرضية تستنزل نقمته وسوط عذابه على أدناس الاستعمار الإيطالي المتكالبين وما الله بغافل عما يعمل الظالمون وسيعلم الذين ظلموا أي منقلب ينقلبون .
