تطوير اختبار جديد يُحذِّر المدخنين من ظهور الأمراض الخطيرة

قام باحثون بتطوير اختبار جديد للدم يكشف بداية الإصابة بمرض الإمفزيما "Emphysema"، وهو ورم هوائي يحدث في الحويصلة الهوائية، وذلك قبل ظهور الأعراض التقليدية لاعتلال الرئة بسبب التدخين.

ويأمل الباحثون أن يتحول هذا الاختبار كإشارة إنذار قد تقنع المدخنين بالإقلاع عن التدخين قبل تطور الأمر لأمراض أكثر تعقيداً بالرئة مثل الإصابة بسرطان الرئة.

ويقوم الاختبار الجديد بقياس الجزيئات التي تفرزها الأوعية الدموية الضئيلة التي تُعرف بالأوعية الشعرية التي تحيط بالحويصلات الهوائية بالرئتين، وتمثل تلك الجزيئات حطام الإصابات بالحويصلات الهوائية، وهو العطب الذي يتحول في النهاية إلى تحطيم الحويصلات.

وتُعتبر الحويصلات الهوائية هي المكان الذي يحدث فيه تبادل الغازات، حيث يجلب الدم في الأوعية الشعرية ثاني أكسيد الكربون من باقي أجزاء الجسم لتطلق في الحويصلات الهوائية، بينما يؤخذ الأكسجين من الحويصلات إلى الدم الذي يوزعه على جميع أجزاء الجسم، وبتدمير الحويصلات الهوائية يعاني الشخص من قصر التنفس فلا يستطيع أخذ ما يكفيه من أكسجين لتغذية الجسم، وفي النهاية لا يستطيع كذلك تخليص الدم من ثاني أكسيد الكربون.

وقال أستاذ طب الجينات بكلية طب ويل كورنيل رونالد كريستال: "نعلم جيداً من دراسات سابقة أن المدخنين عند علمهم بأدلة علمية أن صحتهم في خطر، فإن أغلبهم يستجيب لدعوات الإقلاع عن التدخين، وهذه قد تكون الطريقة الوحيدة التي تجنبهم مثل تلك الأمراض المميتة".

ورأى كريستال وزملاؤه من فريق البحث أن الأوعية الشعرية التي تحيط بالحويصلات الهوائية قد أصيبت، وأن حطامها سوف يحملها الدم وبهذا يمكن عدها كعلامة حيوية على المرض، ولهذا بدأوا البحث عن أدلة لما سموه الجزيئات البطانية أو "endothelial micro particles"، وهذه الجزيئات تمثل أدوات صغيرة أطلقتها الخلايا البطانية ويمكن إيجادها وهي تدور مع الدم بالرغم من أن هذه الجزيئات يمكن إيجادها في دم أشخاص أصحاء، إلا أن وجودها بأعداد كبيرة يرتبط بأمراض معينة خاصة فرط النشاط واضطرابات الأوعية الدموية بالقلب.

ووجد الباحثون أيضاً علاقة بين زيادة نسبة الجزيئات البطانية بالدم واختبار "DLCO" الذي يعني بدء ظهور أعراض الإمفزيما.

ومرضا الأمفزيما والالتهاب الشعبي الحاد يقودان في النهاية للإصابة بمرض الانسداد الرئوي الحاد "COPD" الذي يمثل رابع أهم أسباب الوفاة بالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.
