سافر عربي - بلعيد - وفرنسي - فرانسوا - وأمريكي - إدوارد -
مشيا على الأقدام في صحراءنا الجزائرية الجميلة في فصل الربيع
حيث الجو المعتدل و أحيانا الزوابع الرملية .
سافر الثلاثة وكل منهم يتباهى بأصله وفصله وتاريخه وأمجاد أجداده .
وفي بداية الشوط الأخير من الرحلة نبه بلعيد صديقيه إلى أن الزاد قد
قرب على النفاذ وأن آخر ما تبقى منه هو دجاجة محمرة .
تشاور القوم في كيفية التعامل مع هذا الزاد القليل وبينما هم كذلك
خطرت على بال بلعيد فكرة وهي أن يخلدوا إلى النوم ومن
رأى منهم مناما جميلا يكون هو سعيد الحظ ويتناول لوحده الدجاجة .
خلد المسافرون إلى النوم ، غير أن بلعيد كان له شأن آخر ، إذ فتح عينيه
ونظر إلى صاحبيه فإذا هما يعصان في نوم عميق ، فأخرج الدجاجة والتهمها
بالكامل وتعامل مع العظام معاملة جعلتها نخرة كأنها من عهد عاد أو ثمود ، ثم
مسح شفتيه بحجر كلسي جعلتهما تبدوان وكأن صاحبهما قبل مقلاة على نار ثم عاد
إلى مضجعه ونام .
إستفاق الجميع بعد فترة ، فسأل بلعيد إدوارد : ماذا رأيت ؟
أجاب الأمريكي : لقد رأيت العجب العجاب ، لقد صعدت إلى السماء
ورأيت السحاب ، البرد ( التبروري ) ، المطر ، قوس قزح وكل مايخطر وما لايخطر على بال .
ثم ألتفت إلى فرانسوا وطرح عليه نفس السؤال ، فأجاب الأخير : أما أنا فقد نزلت
إلى أعماق الأرض ورأيت الجن والماء ، الحديد والذهب والبترول والغرائب كلها .
نظر الأمريكي والفرنسي إلى بلعيد وسألاه ، وأنت ، ماذا رأيت ؟
رد عليهما بلعيد قائلا : أنا ، لقد جاءني رجل وطلب مني إيقاظكما ، ألتفت إليك يا إدوارد
فوجدتك قد طرت إلى السماء ثم ألتفت نحوك يا فرانسوا فوجدتك في أعماق الأرض ، فلما
أخبرت الرجل بحالكما قال لي :إذا الدجاجة من نصيبك وحدك ، كلها هنيئا مريئا . .
