قالت صحيفة لوس أنجلس تايمز إن زعيم تنظيم القاعدة أسامة بن لادن تساءل عن عدد الأميركيين الذين يجب أن يُقتلوا في أميركا كي تضطر الولايات المتحدة إلى الانسحاب من العالم العربي، واستنتج أن الأمر يتطلب هجوما من وزن 11 سبتمبر.
وقالت الصحيفة إن مفكرة بن لادن التي عثر عليها حيث كان مختبئا في إبت آباد بباكستان كانت جزءا من محتويات مطبوعة ورقمية عثرت عليها القوة التي اغتالته. ونقلت الصحيفة عن مسؤول أميركي قوله إن كمية البيانات الموجودة تقدر ببضعة تيرابايتات وتوفر معلومات جديدة عن القاعدة.
وقال المسؤول إن المفكرة تحوي أفكار خطط كاملة ونماذج عمليات كبيرة تستهدف قتل أكبر عدد من الناس وليس أهدافا محددة كما جرت العادة. وأضاف موضحا أنه في إحدى الفقرات تساءل بن لادن عن عدد القتلى الذين يجب أن يسقطوا في المدن الأميركية كي تنسحب الولايات المتحدة من العالم العربي، وتوصل إلى أن هجوما من طراز 11 سبتمبر سيدفع واشنطن إلى تغيير سياستها.
وقالت الصحيفة إن المسؤول رفض الإفصاح عن معلومات تتعلق بخطط عن هجمات كبيرة تستهدف مدنا مثل لوس أنجلس وشيكاغو، وقال مسؤول آخر إن بن لادن ناقش هجوما على العاصمة واشنطن لأهميتها.
لكن مايكل داونينغ المسؤول الأمني لمكافحة الإرهاب في لوس أنجلس قال إن هذه المعلومات أكدت ما كان معروفا منذ زمن طويل، لأن "لوس أنجلس كانت في قائمة أهداف القاعدة".
وفي عام 1999 اعتقل "مفجر الألفية" أحمد رسام في بورت أنجلس بولاية واشنطن وهو على متن سيارة مملوءة بالمتفجرات، وتمت إدانته بالتخطيط لتفجير قنبلة بمطار لوس أنجلس الدولي.


وأكدت الصحيفة أن عناصر الاستخبارات الأميركية يواصلون فحص بيانات خمسة أجهزة كمبيوتر وعشرات الأقراص الصلبة وأشياء أخرى كانت بحوزة بن لادن، لكنهم لم يجدوا أدلة على هجمات وشيكة تنفذها القاعدة أو مجموعات مرتبطة بها.
وجاء في التحليلات الأولية أن بن لادن كان على اتصال دائم بعدد من الناشطين منهم عطية عبد الرحمن وهو ليبي في الثلاثينيات من العمر، وكانت المراسلات تُبعث أولا في شريحة ذاكرة خارجية. وقالت تقارير إن عبد الرحمن قتل في هجوم نفذته طائرة أميركية بدون طيار، لكن مسؤولين أميركيين يعتقدون أنه لا يزال حيا.
وقال مسؤولون رفضوا الكشف عن هويتهم إن ما وجدوه يؤكد الاعتقاد الذي ساد طويلا وهو أن بن لادن كان معزولا حيث قطع الاتصالات ولم يلعب أي دور في الهجمات أو التخطيط لها وانحصر دوره في كونه رمزا روحيا.
وهذه المعلومات ليست كلها غير متوقعة، فعمر بن لادن وصف والده في مذكراته بأنه كان يسجل أفكاره وخططه بانتظام.
ومن جهتها نقلت صحيفة واشنطن بوست بعض ما جاء في مفكرة بن لادن، حيث قالت إنه كان مهتما بتجنيد أعداء أميركا من غير المسلمين، مثل الأميركيين الأفارقة واللاتينيين، كما ذكرت أفكارا عن التخطيط لهجوم في الذكرى العاشرة لهجمات 11 سبتمبر، وإرسال رسائل منتظمة إلى مساعديه الأكثر ثقة، بما في ذلك فرع تنظيم القاعدة في اليمن، وكان بعض المساعدين يؤكد ولاءه، في حين كان بعض آخر يغضب من تركيزه على الولايات المتحدة بدلا من تنفيذ هجمات أقل خطورة في بلدان مثل اليمن والصومال والجزائر.
وقال مسؤول أميركي إن بن لادن قال لأتباعه "يجب عليكم التركيز على أميركا والغرب"، لكن بعضهم كان يبدو مهتما بالهجمات في مناطق أخرى تستدعي التدخل الأميركي.
وقال مسؤول آخر إن بن لادن "لم يضع أي خطط تتعلق بحماية هذه البيانات من الوقوع في أيدي الأميركيين وذلك بتدميرها، كما لم يضع خطة للهروب، ربما لأنه لم يتوقع مهاجمته في مخبئه".
وقال مسؤولون آخرون إن ما لدى الاستخبارات الأميركية أكثر من 110 شرائح ذاكرات وكمبيوترات محمولة بالإضافة إلى وثائق مكتوبة، وهو ما يمثل ملايين الأوراق، وكل هذه المحتويات ستفحص في مكان سري بفرجينيا، وسيتم جلب محللين وخبراء مختصين في اللغة العربية لهذه المهمة.
