استقال المدير العام لصندوق النقد الدولي، دومينيك ستراوس-كان، صباح الخميس 19-5-2011 في رسالة رسمية كتبها من سجنه في نيويورك إلى إدارة الصندوق الواقع مقره في واشنطن، من تداعيات اعتقاله واتهامه بالتحرش بعاملة تنظيف حاول اغتصابها السبت الماضي في جناحه بفندق نيويوركي شهير تعمل فيه.

وقال ستراوس في رسالته، التي بثتت ملخصاً عنها بعض وسائل الإعلام الأمريكية، إنه يشعر بحزن لا نهائي، وإنه يفكر في هذا الوقت بالذات بزوجته التي يحبها وبأولاده وعائلته وأصدقائه. وقال إنه ينفي كليا ما سماه مزاعم المرأة التي اتهمته بالتحرش.

والواقع أن أخطر الجديد عن دومينيك ستراوس-كان، ليس إمكانية إدانته بالسجن من 15 الى 74 سنة فيما لو ثبتت ضده 7 تهم وجهوها إليه بعد اعتقاله السبت الماضي حين حاول اغتصاب عاملة تنظيف للغرف داخل جناحه في فندق نيويوركي شهير، بل ما أكدته صحيفة أمريكية من أن المرأة ااتي تحرش بها تقيم في مجمّع خاص بالمصابين بفيروس HIV المسبب لمرض الأيدز، وقد تكون مصابة بالجرثوم أو بالمرض نفسه.
