قالت منظمة الصحة العالمية إن نسب وفيات الأطفال تراجعت عبر أنحاء العالم خلال العقد الأول من القرن الحالي بواقع ضعف معدلات انخفاضها في التسعينيات مرجعة ذلك لارتفاع الإنفاق على الرعاية الصحية.

وقالت المنظمة انه تم تسجيل معدل انخفاض مشابه مثير للإعجاب في عدد السيدات اللائي يتوفين من مضاعفات الحمل أو الولادة وزيادة في معدل متوسط العمر المتوقع إلى 68 عاما في عام 2009 عن 64 عاما في عام 1990 .
ولكنها أضافت في تقرير إحصائيات الصحة العالمية السنوي أن الخدمات الصحية حول العالم لا تزال مثقلة بأعباء مضاعفة جراء الأمراض المعدية وأمراض العصر مثل أمراض القلب.
كما دعا التقرير لضخ المزيد من الأموال على الخدمات الصحية خاصة في البلدان الفقيرة.
وقدر التقرير الإنفاق الصحي على الفرد في البلدان ذات الدخول المنخفضة بمبلغ 32 دولارا أو نحو 5.4 في المئة من الناتج المحلي الإجمالي مقابل 4590 دولارا أو 11 في المئة من الناتج المحلي الإجمالي في البلدان ذات الدخول المرتفعة.
ورصد التقرير تراجع وفيات الأطفال بنسبة 2.7 في المئة في العام منذ عام 2000 وهو ضعف معدل التراجع في التسعينيات.
وتراجعت وفيات الأطفال تحت سن خمسة أعوام إلى 8.1 مليون في عام 2009 مقابل 12.4 مليون في عام 1990.
وتراجع عدد السيدات اللائي يتوفين من مضاعفات الحمل والولادة بنسبة 3.3 في المئة في العام منذ عام 2000 مقارنة بتراجع بنسبة اثنين في المئة خلال التسعينيات.
وقالت المنظمة إن الأمراض المزمنة مثل السرطان وأمراض القلب والسكري وصلت لنسب وبائية عالمية وإنها تسبب المزيد من الوفيات عن كل الأمراض الأخرى مجتمعة.
وقال التقرير إن الظروف المهيئة للإصابة للأمراض تتفاقم بسبب التدخين والبدانة وغيرها من العوامل.
ووفقا لبيانات التقرير المقرر عرضه على وزراء الصحة في الدول الأعضاء التي يصل عددها إلى 193 دولة خلال اجتماعهم في وقت لاحق الشهر الجاري أن أربعة من كل عشرة رجال وان سيدة بين كل 11 سيدة يدخنون.
