قصة الأصمعي وجاره البقال

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

قال الاصمعى: ‏
‏ كنت بالبصرة أطلب العلم، وأنا فقير. وكان
على باب زقاقنا بقّال، إذا خرجتُ باكرا يقول لي إلى أين؟
فأقول إلى فلان المحدّث. وإذا عدت مساء يقول لي: من
أين؟ فأقول من عند فلان الإخباريّ أو اللغويّ. ‏ ‏ فيقول البقا
ل: يا هذا، اقبل وصيّتي، أنت شاب فلا تضيّع نفسك في
هذا الهراء، واطلب عملا يعود عليك نفعه وأعطني جميع ما
عندك من الكتب فأحرقها. فوالله لو طلبت مني بجميع كتبك
جزرة، ما أعطيتُك! ‏ ‏ فلما ضاق صدري بمداومته هذا الكلام،
صرت أخرج من بيتي ليلا وأدخله ليلا، وحالي، في خلال
ذلك، تزداد ضيقا، حتى اضطررت إلى بيع ثياب لي، وبقيت
لا أهتدي إلى نفقة يومي، وطال شعري، وأخلق ثوبي،
واتّسخ بدني.
‏ ‏ فأنا كذلك، متحيّرا في أمري، إذ جاءني خادم للأمير محمد
بن سليمان الهاشمي فقال لي: ‏ ‏ أجب الأمير. ‏ ‏ فقلت: ما
يصنع الأمير برجل بلغ به الفقر إلى ما ترى؟ ‏ ‏ فلما رأى
سوء حالي وقبح منظري، رجع فأخبر محمد بن سليمان
بخبري، ثم عاد إليّ ومعه تخوت ثياب، ودرج فيه بخور،
وكيس فيه ألف دينار، وقال: ‏ ‏ قد أمرني الأمير أن أُدخلك
الحمام، وأُلبِسك من هذه الثياب وأدع باقيها عندك،
وأطعِمك من هذا الطعام، وأبخّرك، لترجع إليك نفسك، ثم
أحملك إليه. ‏ ‏ فسررت سرورا شديدا، ودعوتُ له، وعملتُ ما
قال، ومضيت معه حتى دخلت على محمد بن سليمان.
فلما سلّمتُ عليه، قرّبني ورفعني ثم قال: ‏ ‏ يا عبد الملك،
قد سمعت عنك، واخترتك لتأديب ابن أمير المؤمنين، فتجهّز
للخروج إلى بغداد. ‏ ‏ فشكرته ودعوت له، وقلت: ‏ ‏ سمعا
وطاعة. سآخذ شيئا من كتبي وأتوجّه إليه غدا. ‏
‏ وعدت إلى
داري فأخذت ما احتجت إليه من الكتب، وجعلتُ باقيها في
حجرة سددتُ بابها، وأقعدت في الدار عجوزا من أهلنا
تحفظها. ‏ ‏ فلما وصلت إلى بغداد دخلت على أمير
المؤمنين هارون الرشيد.
‏ ‏ قال: أنت عبد الملك الأصمعي؟ ‏ ‏ قلت: نعم، أنا خادم أمير المؤمنين الأصمعي. ‏ ‏ قال أعلم أن ولد الرجل مهجة قلبه. وها أنا أسلم إليك ابني محمدا بأمانة الله. فلا تعلمه ما يُفسد عليه دينه، فلعله أن يكون للمسلمين إماما. ‏ ‏ قلت: السمع والطاعة. ‏ ‏ فأخرجه إليّ، وحُوِّلْتُ معه إلى دار قد أُخليت لتأديبه، وأجرى عليّ في كل شهر عشرة آلاف درهم. فأقمت معه حتى قرأ القرآن، وتفقّه في الدين، وروي الشعر واللغة، وعلم أيام الناس وأخبارهم.
‏ ‏ واستعرضه الرشيد فأُعجب به وقال: ‏ ‏ أريد أن يصلي بالناس في يوم الجمعة، فاختر له خطبة فحفِّظْه إياها. ‏ ‏ فحفّظتُه عشرا، وخرج فصلى بالناس وأنا معه، فأعجب الرشيد به وأتتني الجوائز والصلات من كل ناحية، فجمعت مالا عظيما اشتريت به عقارا وضياعا وبنيت لنفسي دارا بالبصرة. ‏ ‏ فلما عمرت الدار وكثرت الضياع، استأذنتُ الرشيد في الانحدار إلى البصرة، فأذن لي. فلما جئتها أقبل عليّ أهلها للتحية وقد فَشَتْ فيهم أخبار نعمتي. وتأمّلت من جاءني، فإذا بينهما البقال وعليه عمامة وسخة، وجبّة قصيرة. فلما رآني صاح: ‏ ‏ عبد الملك! ‏ ‏ فضحكت من حماقته ومخاطبته إيّاي بما كان يخاطبني به الرشيد ثم قلت له: ‏ ‏ يا هذا! قد والله جاءتني كتبي بما هو خير من الجَزَرَة!
