بعد شركات المرتزقة في البر، لدينا الآن اولى شركات الأمن البحرية الخاصة. الشركة اسمها برنامج مرافقة القوافلConvoy Escort Programme وسوف تبدأ عملياتها في خلال خمسة اشهر، ويتكون اسطولها من قوارب دورية مضادة للرصاص وتتركز مهامها في مرافقة السفن المارة عبر خليج عدن. سيكون سعر الحماية 30 الف دولار لكل سفينة تسافر في قافلة من حوالي 4 سفن على مدى ثلاثة الى اربعة ايام. يقول مدير الشركة انجوس كامبيل:
"سوف نكون وسيلة ردع. ولسنا نبحث عن المشاكل ولكن اذا حاول اي شخص مهاجمة سفينة نرافقها فإن فرق الامن لدينا سوف تستخدم القوة دفاعا عن النفس"
سوف تستخدم الشركة 7 قوارب دورية بحرية سابقة وفي كل منها 8 حراس مسلحون تصل رواتبهم الى 30 مليون دولار وقد تتوسع الشركة الى 11 سفينة وسوف تكلف 50 مليون دولار وقال ان الممولين
من شركات النفط وشركات التأمين البحرية.
كانت الفكرة مقترحة من السنة الماضية ولكن كانت هناك مشكلة حيث لم تقبل أي دولة في تسجيل القوارب لديها. وأخيرا وافقت قبرص في الشهر الماضي، بعد ان رفضت الولايات المتحدة تسجيلها لديها"
في ايلول دعت صناعة السفن الأمم المتحدة لتأسيس قوة عسكرية مسلحة تعمل في البحر لمجابهة خطر العصابات البحرية المتزايد.
