كد الكاتب الفرنسي مارك جورج والذي شارك في الوفد الذي المناطق السورية التي شهدت الأحداث الأخيرة، أن الإرهابيين الموجودين في سوريا مجهزين بأحدث أنواع الأسلحة التي تشير إلى جهة ما تمول هؤلاء، حيث قال جورج أن "ثمة حرب عصابات بكل معنى الكلمة تدور في سوريا ويتم التعتيم الإعلامي الكامل عليها".
وفي الإطار نفسه وأثناء استقباله مع الوفد من قبل النائب اللبناني طلال إرسلان بعد إنهاء زيارتهم لسوريا، أشار جورج الى أن "المعارضة المسلحة في حوزتها أحدث انواع الصواريخ المضادة للدروع، وأن الحدود السورية مع تركيا والأردن ولبنان باتت أشبه بالمنخل تعبر منها كل أنواع الأسلحة، وهناك مجموعات كبيرة ممن يطلق عليها العرب - الأفغان دخلت سوريا من الحدود العراقية، وأن سوريا باتت الهدف الأساسي لتنظيم "القاعدة".
يشار إلى أن الوفداً ضمّ ثمانية عشر صحافياً وكاتباً من الولايات المتحدة الأميركية وفرنسا واسبانيا وايطاليا والمانيا وانكلترا، وأجرى جولة ميدانية في ريف حمص وإدلب والحدود الشمالية مع تركيا.
واطلع إرسلان من الوفد، الذي تقدمه الكاتب والمحامي الأميركي ويستر ثاربلي، على مشاهداته في سوريا، حيث أوضح الوفد أن "ما يحدث في سوريا اليوم شبيه جداً بما حدث في الجزائر خلال تسعينات القرن الماضي على الصعيدين الأمني والإرهابي".
كما تحدث أعضاء الوفد عما شاهدوه خلال تحقيقاتهم الميدانية في المستشفيات والمشارح السورية من "مآسٍ وأهوال وعمليات تقوم بها عصابات مسلحة تستهدف بشكل منهجي عناصر ومراكز الشرطة والحافلات التي تقل المدنيين"، معتبرين أن "ثمة إجحافاً كبيراً في حق القوى الأمنية السورية والمدنيين السوريين".
