الشريف محمّد بن عبد الله المدعو بومعزة
وفي 1845 شهدت منطقة الظهرة انتفاضة زعيم بومعزة المدعو الشريف محمد بن عبد الله وعرفت هذه الإنتفاضة بانتفاضة الظهرة ، استطاع أن يكبد هذا الزعيم خسائر فادحة في صفوف المستعمر ، حيث قامت انتفاضته ضد التعسف والظلم و النقص في الأرزاق وقد أثار بومعزة الرعب في جيش الإحتلال حيث استطاع أن يصد هجومات المقدم ميليت على تحصينات مستغانم لكن طاردته قوات هذا القائد بتعاون مع قوات " سانت أرنو " قاد الأصنام ( شلف حاليا ) والكولونيل " جيري " و الكمندان " برت " قائد تنس أفلت منهم والتحق بدائرة الأمير في المغرب الأقصى حيث أقام فترة من الزمن ثم عاد إلى منطقة الظهرة التي شهدت انتصاراته الأولى وهناك حاول النهوض من جديد لكنه فشل بسبب القمع الوحشي من طرف جيش الإحتلال وقد النتهىبه الأمر أن سلم نفسه في 13 ماي 1847 م للجنرال " سانت أرنو " فسلمه هذا إلى المارشال " بوجو" الذي حمله إلى فرنسا حيث سجن عدة سنوات ، وكانت ثورة بومعزة قد شملت عدة مناطق حيث تنقل هو فيما بين 1841 – 1847

و لقد اشتعلت مقاومة جديدة في أفريل 1845 على يد الشاب بومعزة في منطقة الظهرة . مقاومة بومعزة تلقى الشاب بومعزة الدعم الكامل من قبيلة أولاد رياح حيث تمكن و بفضلها من هزم قبيلة سنجاس العميلة والموالية للفرنسيين كما تمكن في نفس الوقت من القضاء على الآغا الذي نصبته الإدارة العسكرية الفرنسية على المنطقة جزاء لما قدمه من خدمات جليلة لها في أوقات سابقة، عرف الشاب بومعزة كيف يوسع من رقعة انتفاضته الشعبية ما اقلق كثيرا الجنرال بيجو إلى درجة أنه قرر وضع إستراتجية خاصة بهدف القضاء عليها فبعث خمس قوافل عسكرية إلى المنطقة لتوزع عند وصولها عبر مختلف مناطق الظهرة لمحاصرتها وتوجيهها بالدرجة الأولى خاصة إلى تلك المناطق التي امتدت إليها نار المقاومة ولإنجاح خطته استنجد بكل من الجنرال " آبوفيل " قائد قافلة سطيف والجنرال "ماري" قائد قافلة المدية أما القوافل الثلاثة فهي تلك القوافل التي كانت متمركزة بمنطقة " الأصنام" سابقا شلف حاليا حيث كان يقودها كل من الكولونيل "لادميرو" و"سانت آرنو" إلى جانب الكولونيل "بيليسيي" وبهذا الحشد الكبير يكون الجنرال بيجو قد جند

مجازر اولاد ارياح
وقعت مجزرة في أولاد رياح بغار الفراشيش في ناحية الظهرة في شهر يونيو 1845 م و الذي ارتكبها الجلاد العقيد بيليسييه الذي أصبح جنرالا ثم مارشالا ثم حاكما للجزائر فيما بعد خلال الستينات وخلاصتها أنه وقعت معركة كبيرة خلال شهر يناير 1845 بناحية الظهرة شاركت فيه عدة طرق صوفية ، القادرية و الرحمانية و الدرقاوية و الطيبية وعرفت عند الفرنسيين بانتفاضة الطرق الصوفية وقد شاركت معهم قبيلة أولاد رياح فغزاها بيليسيه وأحرق كل ما فيها مما استدعى فرار القبيلة وهي تحارب إلى ناحية غار الفراشيش اجتمعت به وعددها أكثر من ألف شخص رجالا ونساء و أطفالا مع حيواناتهم وكان هذا يوم 17 يونيو وتم محاصرة الغار من طرف الفرنسيين مع جميع الجهات وطلب من القبيلة الإستسلام أو الموت ، اختناقا بالدخان ولكن كان ردها هو الرصاص ومضى اليوم الأول 17/18 من الشهر دون خروج أحد وأثناء الليل جلب العقيد تعزيزات الجيش وضيق الحصار على الغار وضاعف من إيقاد النار الذي جلب لها أكداس الحطب وأحاط بها الغار وراح يضاعف من عملية إشعال النار و التدخين في مداخل الغار وتواصلت العملية طول الليلة الثانية وأعطى القائد تعليمات باستمرار الخنق ومضاعفته وقبل طلوع النهار بنحو ساعة وقع انفجار مهول في قلب الغار وكان ذلك إشارة باختناق ما يزيد عن الف شخص و كانت هذه المجزرة رهيبة للغاية هزت الجزائريين واثارت ضجة في البرلمان الفرنسي انذاك
