عين الفوارة معلم فرنسي وسبب إقامته هوالتالي
تم بناء النافورة عام 1898 (http://www.echoroukonline.com/wiki/1898) من قبل النحات (http://www.echoroukonline.com/wiki/%D9%86%D8%AD%D8%A7%D8%AA) الفرنسي (http://www.echoroukonline.com/wiki/%D9%81%D8%B1%D9%86%D8%B3%D8%A7) فرانسيس دو سانت - فيدال .
و يعود سبب إنشاءها في وسط المدينة القديمة، إلى أن الحاكم الفرنسي أزعجه وجود المصلين للوضوء في ذلك المكان صباحا من أجل صلاة الفجر. و ذلك لتواجدها بالقرب من المسجد العتيق، فجاءته فكرة وضع تمثال يخدش الحياء لمنع المصلين من التواجد في ذلك المكان صباحا....

هذه المعلومة تذكرنا بقصة بداية عبادة الأصنام عندما أشار ابليس الى أهمية انجاز تماثيل للخمسة الصالحين: ودّا ويغوث, ويعوق, وسواع, ونسر
كان "ود" رجلا صالحا كما ذكرنا, وكان محببا في قومه, فلما مات عكفوا على الجلوس حول قبره في أرض بابل وحزنوا عليه حزنا شديدا وأصبحوا يزورون قبره بصفة دائمة, ورأى ابليس حالهم هذا وجزعهم عليه فأراد أن يستثمر هذا الضعف فيهم فتشبّه بصورة انسان ثم قال لهم: اني أرى جزعكم على هذا الرجل, فهل لكم أن أصوّر لكم مثله فيكون في ناديكم فتذكرونه به؟.
فقالوا: نعم.
فصنع ابليس صنما مثل "ود" فوضعوه في ناديهم فجعلوا يقدّسون الصنم ويذكرونه صباح و مساء.
فلما رأى ابليس ذلك منهم واطمأن الى غيّهم قال لهم في خطوة جعلته يتمكن من عقيدتهم ويفسدهم_قال: هل أجعل لكم في منزل كل منكم تمثالا مثله ليكون له في بيته فتذكرونه, وتعبدونه؟
قالوا: نعم.
فصنع لكل أهل بيت تمثالا مثله, فأقبلوا على هذه التماثيل الأصنام التي حملت اسم الرجل "ود" ولما جاء أبناؤهم أدركوا ما يفعله الآباء, جعلوا يقلّدونهم فيما يصنعون بهذ التماثيل من عبادة وتأليه, وتواليت بعد ذلك أجيالهم وأحفادهم في عبادة الأصنام, ونسوا "ود" الرجل الصالح وجعلوه صنما يعبد من دون الله وبذلك استطاع ابليس أن يحول اسم الرجل الصالح الى رمز للوثنيّة والكفر, فكان "ود" أول ما عبد لغير الله, وكان أول صنم يعبد من غير الله اسمه "ود".
