Les ordinateurs connectés en Wifi seraient une menace pour le sperme, selon une étude publiée dans la revue Fertility and sterility.

Surfer en Wifi avec un ordinateur portable placé sur ses genoux peut être très dommageable pour les spermatozoïdes. Des chercheurs américains et argentins ont démontré dans une récente étude que la proximité entre l'ordinateur connecté en Wifi et les testicules avait un impact notable sur la qualité du sperme.

L'expérience a été menée à partir de la semence de 29 volontaires âgés entre 26 et 49 ans. Chaque échantillon de sperme a été divisé en deux groupes : le groupe témoin a été maintenu à distance d'un ordinateur portable connecté en Wifi. L'autre a été soumis au contact prolongé d'un laptop. Le résultat est sans équivoque : les spermatozoïdes des hommes placés pendant quatre heures près d'un ordinateur portable relié au Wifi parvenaient moins bien à nager et présentaient une altération de leur code génétique. A titre de comparaison, dans le groupe exposé aux ondes Wifi, 25 % des spermatozoïdes avaient cessé de se déplacer contre seulement 14 % des spermatozoïdes du groupe témoin. 9 % des spermatozoïdes des hommes exposés à l'Internet sans fil montraient un ADN endommagé, contre 3 % dans le groupe témoin.

Le rayonnement électro-magnétique serait donc néfaste pour la fertilité masculine, en déduisent les chercheurs. Quant à savoir si les effets de l'exposition varient selon le type d'ordinateurs portables, les chercheurs n'ont pour l'instant pas la réponse et promettent de faire des recherches plus poussées. De même, d'autres expériences vont être faites pour confirmer ces résultats. Pas mesure de précaution, mieux vaut éloigner son ordinateur portable de ses genoux, d'autant que des études ont montré le risque d'hyperthermie testiculaire, liée à l'exposition des testicules à une chaleur élevée.

Le Wifi déjà montré du doigt

Cette étude n'est pas la première à alerter des possibles méfaits d'une exposition aux radiations Wifi. Le Centre de recherche et d'information indépendantes sur les rayonnements électromagnétiques a déjà mis en garde contre la dangerosité de la technologie sans fil appliquée aux téléphones mobiles. La téléphonie Wi-Fi est selon elle une source de "pollution électromagnétique", les émissions des ondes électromagnétiques des téléphones portables équivalant à celles d'un four à micro-ondes. Les antennes Wifi sont soupçonnées d'être à l'origine du "syndrome du micro-ondes". Michèle Rivasi, du Criirad [Commission de recherche et d'information indépendantes sur la radioactivité] expliquait le phénomène au Monde.fr : "insomnies, maux de tête, manque de concentration, nausées, etc", autant de symptômes "caractéristique[s] des effets des hyperfréquences".
