يقول باحثون بريطانيون ان التعرض لاشعة الشمس قد يحد من انتشار عدوى مرض جدري الماء و المعروف "ببوشوكة" بالعامية..

وخلص فريق البحث من جامعة لندن الى ان انتشار مرض جدري الماء اقل في المناطق التي تشهد مستويات عالية من الاشعة فوق البنفسجية، حسب ما نشرته فصلية "فايرولوجي" (علم الفيروسات).

فيروس فاريسيللا-زوستر المسبب للمرض شديد العدوى، فمع امكانية انتقاله عبر رذاذ السعال والعطس في المراحل الاولى من الاصابة الا ان المصدر الرئيسي للعدوى هو الاحتكاك بالبثور والطفح الجلدي الذي يسببه المرض.

ومعروف ان الاشعة فوق البنفسجية تبطل عمل الفيروسات الا ان الدكتور فيل رايس من جامعة لندن الذي ترأس فريق البحث يرى ان ذلك ربما يكون سر عدم انتشار جدري الماء بسهولة في المناطق الاستوائية.

و يعود سبب عدم انتشار الفيروس في المناطق الاستوائية إلى تبطيل درجة الحرارة المرتفعة للفيروس.


وقام الفريق بدراسة النتائج والبيانات من 25 دراسة سابقة حول الفيروس المسبب للمرض في عدة دول مختلفة حول العالم وقام بمضاهاة تلك البيانات مع مؤشرات المناخ المختلفة.

واظهرت النتائج علاقة بين مدى انتشار عدوى جدري الماء ومستويات الاشعة فوق البنفسجية.
حتى النتائج المعقدة يمكن تفسيرها، من قبيل ذروة انتشار الإصابة في الهند وسريلانكا في اكثر الفصول حرارة وجفافا.

الا ان رايس اكتشف انه نتيجة التلوث في الغلاف الجوي فان مستويات الاشعة فوق البنفسجية تكون اقل في تلك الفصول مقارنة بالفصول الاخرى.

وقال: " لم يفكر احد في الاشعة فوق البنفسجية كعامل من قبل، لكن دراسة طبيعة انتشار الإصابات تبين ان هناك علاقة بين مستواها وبين انتشار الفيروس".
