مباني المستقبل تمتص انبعاثات الكربون من الهواء
فقد استطاع العلماء تجميع وهندسة عدة مواد كيميائية بحيث تتصرف مثل الكائنات الحية الدقيقة وعند طلاء المباني تقوم بامتصاص الإنبعاثات الكربونية الناتجة عن المدن ثم يتم استخدامها لتنمو المباني بشكل يجعلها أقرب لكائن حي !

تؤثر المادة المبتكرة على نمو واجهات هذه المباني حيث تقوم بإنتاج الحجر الجيري بعد امتصاصها للإنبعاثات الكربونية وتنمو لتعالج أي شروخ تحدث في جدران المبنى مما يطيل في عمره ، وبمرور الزمن يزداد سمك الحجر الجيري حول المبنى مما يساهم في تنظيم حرارة المبنى وربما مد المبنى بالطاقة اللازمة .

وتعتمد سرعة نمو طبقة الحجر الجيري على تركيز ثاني أكسيد الكربون في الجو الأمر الذي يستغرق من سنة إلى عشر سنوات مما يجعلنا نلاحظ قدرة هذه الخلايا على إعادة بناء نفسها بالتدريج والنمو كالكائنات الحية .

من جهة أخرى فإن المادة الكيميائية التي تم اكتشافها تتفاعل مع ثاني أكسيد الكربون لتوقف إطلاق انبعاثات الكربون في الهواء مما يحد من هذه الإنبعاثات ويحولها لمادة غير ضارة .

ويؤكد الخبراء على أنه بازدياد تعداد السكان والمدن كان لابد أيضاً من وضع حلول أكثر للتعامل مع انبعاثات الكربون وهو الأمر الذي يتطلب التعامل بشكل جديد ومبتكر . . وهو ما قدمته هذه الفكرة والتي تجعل مواد البناء في الهندسة الحيوية تحاكي النظم الحية ، إلا أن الخروج بهذه التجربة الناجحة من داخل المختبر للعالم يعد تحدياً كبيراً حيث لن يرغب الناس بداية من المقاولين . . ووصولا إلى السماسرة والتجار . . في المخاطرة بالاستثمار في صناعة يتم اختبارها لأول مرة وخاصة مع ارتفاع تكلفتها .

ولكن لنأمل جميعًا أن تكون هذه المباني هي بداية حقيقية لتقدم في تحويل المباني من شكلها الحالي من استهلاك الموارد وتحويلها لضرر إلى امتصاص الضرر وتحويله لخير المدن والناس، فكما تزيد مشاكل المدن والتلوث يجب على الحلول أن تكبر أيضًا.
