لو قدر لأبي محمد هذا، العيش حتى شهد الحرب الأهلية اللبنانية لذبح على الهوية مرتين:
واحدة في قريته المسيحية لان كنيته " ابو محمد" والاخرى عند ما كان يسمى بخطوط التماس بين بيروت الشرقية وبيروت الغربية لان إسمه " مارون".
هذا ما قاله أحد الباحثين اللبنانيين في الأديب " مارون عبود" . ومارون عبود في تاريخ الأدب العربي ظاهرة أدبية إيجابية فهو كاتب ثائر, تقدمي المنهج, مثله مثل أحمد فارس الشدياق وعمر فاخوري ورئيف خوري, وهذا الرعيل.
لكن لمارون عبود بصمة في تاريخ القومية العربية لا مسبوقة ولا ملحوقة على حد علمي على الأقل في تاريخنا الحديث, جسد فيها وبواقعية إنتحارية, ضرورة وحتمية إتحاد أقليات الوطن العربي وامتزاجهم بالأكثرية عقليا وأدبيا وروحيا.
فمارون عبود (1886-1962) الماروني إبن الخوري والذي أعدته عائلته لتقلد منصب أبيه, لم يكتفي برفض أن يكون كاهنا فحسب, بل وجعل من نفسه عدوا لدودا لطبقة رجال الكهنوت سيرة وقلما. إلى حد تسمية أحد أبنائه في العام 1926 بإسم النبي العربي "محمد" صلى الله عليه وسلم.
وقد نظم قصيدة بالمناسبة خاطب بها الوليد, مبررا للآخرين سبب تسميته هذه.

عشت يا إبني, عشت يا خير صبي*** ولدته أمــــــه في رجـب
فهتفنـــــــا واسمــــــه محمـــــــــــد*** أيها التاريخ لا تستغــــــرب
خفف الدهشة واخشع ان رأيــــــت*** إبن مارون سمياً لنبـــــــي
أمـه ما وضعتـــــــه مسلمـــــــــــــا*** أو مسيحيا لكن عربـــــــي
والنبـــي القرشي المصطفـــــــــــى*** آية الشرق وفخر العربــــي
إلى أن قال:
بك قد خالفت ياابني ملتــــــــــــي*** راجيا مطلع عصر ذهبــــــي
عصر حرية شعب ناهـــــــــــض*** واتحــــــاد لبقايا يعــــــــرب
حبــــذا اليـــوم الذي يجمعنـــــــا*** من ضفاف النيل حتى يثــــرب
ونحيـــي علما يخفـــق فـــــــوق*** منارات الــــورى والقبـــــب
