الهدهدة في اللغة هي: صوت الهدهد وصوت الحمام وصوت الطيروصوت هدير الفحل في الإبل وصوت تحريك الشيئ.
أما في الموروث الشعبي، فهي: تلك الأغاني التي ترددها الأمهات والجدات لأطفالهن الرضع بهدف، تحسيسهم بالراحة والأمان للكف عن البكاء ومن جهة أخرى لعزل سمعهم عن محيطهم ودفعهم للإستسلام إلى النوم.
والجميل في هذا الصنف من أصناف الأدب الشعبي :
* خصوصيته: فالهدهدة خاصة فقط بالأمهات، أي أنه على إرتباط وثيق بعاطفة الأمومة.
* الارتجالية: إن اغاني الهدهدة لا تتطلب غير ما يعرف ب '' اللزمة" مقدمة القصيدة.
أما بقية القصيدة فتتغير إرتجاليا من إمرأة إلى أخرى .
* اللحن: إن قصائد الهدهدة تلقى مغنّات بألحان موسيقية خاصة ذات تأثير فعال على الصبيان.
الشمولية: حيث لا نجد شعبا من شعوب العالم، إلا وله هداهده الخاصة به.
فالألمان مثلا، قد انتبهوا الى أهمية الهدهدة فلجأوا الى تسجيل اغاني الهدهدة بأصوات الأمهات على اشرطة وفتحها في غرف الاطفال،وأثبتت بالتجربة ردود فعل ايجابية
فأين نحن من هذا التراث الذى أسسته جداتنا وأمهاتنا منذ آلاف السنين؟ وكم من الناس مازال يتذكره؟ وكم بحثا أو مقالا غاص في أغواره لإزاحة غبار النسيان من عليه؟ وكم من ملتقى أو عكاظية فكرت في إحيائه و إدراجه في نشاطاتها؟
وإلى أن أجد الإجابة على هذه الاسئلة، أترككم مع مقطع من هدهدة بسكرية:
