ماذا لو طلب منك البقاء في مكان تحيط به الثلوج من كل ناحية ولا يكسو جسمك سوى “شورت” قصير ؟، ربما ستتهم من وضع هذا الافتراض بالجنون،ولكن ماذا لو قلنا أنه يوجد بالفعل من لا يتأثر بالبقاء في درجات الحرارة المنخفضة بل ويستمتع باللحظات السعيدة معها.
وكان الهولندي ويم هوف (48 عاماً) والمعروف باسم “رجل الثلج”، قد استطاع ان يحطم الارقام القياسية ويدخل موسوعة “غينيس” الشهيرة لتمكنه من السباحة تحت الجليد قاطعاً مسافات طويلة.!.
وقد تسبب صمود هوف مع الجليد وهو شبه عار في حيرة العلماء، حيث لم يستطيعوا أن يكتشفوا السر لانه من المعروف أن البقاء في هذه الاجواء لرجل في مثل عمره يكون قاتلاً.
وكان هوف اكتشف قدراته الخارقة فى سن العشرين ثم بدأ تحديه لنفسه وقام بالسير حافي القدمين لمسافة قدرها 100 ميل بالمنطقة القطبية الشمالية في يناير 1999، بعدها بثلاثة أعوام قرر “رجل الثلج” القيام بتحد أكبر حيث خلع ملابسه واكتفى بارتداء “المايوه” فقط وغاص تحت الثلج بالقطب الشمالي، ليحطم الرقم القياسي ويحصل على لقب الموسوعة لأطول فترة سباحة تحت الجليد لمسافة 80 مترا، وهو ما يوازي تقريباً ضعف طول حوض سباحة أولمبي.
من جهة أخرى، أصيب دكتور “كين كالمر” مؤلف كتاب “النجاة من النهايات” الذي عاصر حالات وفاة نتيجة التعرض لدرجات الحرارة منخفضة، بالدهشة عندما علم أن هوف ظل في هذه الأجواء ولا يغطي جسمه سوى سروال فقط.
