اعتمد اجدادنا رجالاً ونساءا في الماضي على النباتات في تعطير اجسامهم وملابسهم , قبل انتشار مصانع العطور العالمية , اعتمدوا على ما يحيط بهم في الطبيعة من نباتات عطرية , ولكل ارض نباتات تختلف عن غيرها حسب التضاريس والمناخ والتربة , فأهل الجبال واهل الصحراء كلٌ له نباتاته المختلفة عن الاخرى , كما ان اهل المراكز الحضارية من المدن والبلدات لهم حدائقهم وما يناسبها من النبات .

شجيرة الريحان هي سيدة النباتات العطرية ..

عند الرجال والنساء على حد سواء ..

فغالباً تجده بين عمائم الرجال وطرِح النساء ..

وللريحان اشكال والوان كثيرة وله استخدمات عديدة ..

وإذا كان ينحصر استخدامه في بعض الاماكن في الاتراح والمأتم فقط ..

فالأنسان الجنوبي يستخدمه في الافراح والأعياد ..

ويعده مصدراً مهماً للعطر والزينة ..
