أبخل من مادر

هو رجل من بني هلال بلغ من بخله أنه سقى إبله فبقي في أسفل الحوض ماء قليل فتغوط فيه ومدر الحوض به أي طانه بخلاً منه ولئلا ينتفع به من بعده .


أبرد من فَلْحَس

فَلْحَس سيدٌ من بني شيبان كان يطلب سَهماً من غَنيمة الجيش وهو في بيته لم يُباشر الغزو فَيُعْطى . ثم يطلب لامرأته فإذا أُعطي طلب أيضاً لبعيره فسار به المثل .

أبصر من زرقاء اليمامة
هي امرأةٌ من جديس كانت تبصر الشيء من مسيرة ثلاثة أيام .

أبطش من دَوْسَر
دَوْسَر : هي إحدى كتائب النعمان بن المنذر ملك العرب . وكانت أخشن كتائبه وأشد منه بطشاً . سميت دَوْسَر اشتقاقاً من الدَسْر وهو الطعن .

أبَّلغ من قُس
هو قُس بن سَاعدة يُضرب به المثل في الفصاحة والخطابة كان من حكماء العرب وأول من قال " أما بعد " وأول من قال " البيَّنة على من ادعى واليمين على من أنكر "

أبْلَهُ من الحُبَارى
الحُبَارى طائر يُضرب به المثل في البَلَه والغباوة لأن أُنثاه إذا فارقت بيضها تذهل عنه فتحضن بيض غيرها .
أَتْيَهُ من قوم موسى
التيه بمعنى التحيُّر وأراد به مكثهم في التيه أربعين سنة .

أجْبَن من صافِرٍ
قيل هو طائر يأخذ غصن شجرة برجليه ويتدلى منكوساً ويصفر طول الليل مخافة أن ينام فيُؤخذ .

أجهل من عقرب
لأنها إذا مرت بالصخرة ضربتها بإبرتها فلا تضرها وتضر إبرتها .

أجوع من كلبة حوْمَل
حوْمَل امرأة من العرب كان لها كلبة تربطها في الليل لتحرس بيتها وتطردها في النهار لتلتمس لها طعاماً . فلما طال عليها ذلك أكلت ذنبها من الجوع .

أحمق من هَبَنَقة
هو أحد بن قيس بن ثعلبة . من حمقه أنه كان يرعى غنم أهله فيرعى السمان في العشب وينحي المهازيل . فقيل له : ويحك ما تصنع ؟ . قال : لا أفسد ما أصلحه الله ولا أصلح ما أفسده . ومن حمقه أيضا انه جعل في عنقه قلادة من ودع وعظام وخزف . فسئل عن ذلك فقال : لأعرف بها نفسي ولئلا أضلّ . فبات ذات ليلة واخذ أخوه قلادته فتقلدها . فلما أصبح ورأى القلادة في عنق أخيه قال : يا أخي أنت أنا فمن أنا ؟!! .

أشأم من طُوَيْس
كان طُوَيْس يقول : ولدت يوم مات الرسول . وفطمتني أمي يوم مات أبو بكر . وبلغت الحلم يوم قتل عمر بن الخطاب . وتزوجت يوم قتل عثمان . وولد لي يوم قتل علي بن أبي طالب .

أشكر من كلب
قال فيه أحد أدباء العرب : انه يكف أذاه عني ويكفيني أذى سواه ويشكر قليلي ويحفظ مبيتي ومقيلي . فهو من بين الحيوان خليلي .

أعْيَا من باقل
هو رجل من ربيعة بلغ من عيّه انه اشترى ظبياً بأحد عشر درهماً فمرَّ بقوم فقالوا له : بكم اشتريت الظبي . فمد يديه واخرج لسانه يريد أحد عشر فشرد الظبي وكان تحت إبطه .

أوفى من السموأل
ومن وفائه أن امرؤ القيس بن حجر الكندي لمّا أراد الخروج إلى الروم استودع السموأل دروعاً له . فلما هلك امرؤ القيس غزا ملك من ملوك الشام السموأل فتحصن في حصنه . فأخذ الملك ابناً له خارج الحصن وقال له : إما أن تفرج عن وديعة امرؤ القيس وإما أن اقتل ابنك . فامتنع عن تسليم الوديعة فذبح الملك ابنه وهو ينظر إليه ثم انصرف . وأوفى السموأل بالدروع فدفعها إلى ورثة امرؤ القيس .
