فضول الدنيا

تأملت أحوال الفضلاء فوجدتهم ـ في الأغلب ـ قد بخسوا من حظوظ الدنيا و رأيت الدنيا غالبا ـ في أيدي أهل النقائص

فنظرت في الفضلاء فإذا هم يتأسفون على ما فاتهم مما ناله أولو النقص و ربما تقطع بعضهم أسفا على ذلك فخاطبت بعض المتأسفين فقلت له و يحك تدبر أمرك فإنك غالط من وجوه :
أحدها : أنه إن كانت لك همة في طلب الدنيا فاجتهد في طلبها تربح التأسف على فوتها فإن قعودك ـ متأسفا على ما ناله غيرك مع قصور اجتهادك ـ غاية العجز
الثاني : أن الدنيا إنما تراد لتعبر لا لتعمر وهذا هو الذي يدلك عليه علمك ويبلغه فهمك
و ما يناله أهل النقص من فضولها يؤذي أبدانهم و أديانهم فإذا عرفت ذلك ثم تأسفت على فقد ما فقده أصلح لك كان تأسفك عقوبة لتأسفك على ما تعلم المصلحة في بعده فاقنع بذلك عذابا عاجلا إن سلمت من العذاب الآجل
و الثالث : أنك قد علمت بخس حظ الآدمي في الجملة من مطاعم الدنيا و لذاتها بالإضافة إلى الحيوان البهيم لأنه ينال ذلك أكثر مقدارا مع أمن و أنت تناله مع خوف و قلة مقدار
فإذا ضوعف حظك من ذلك كان ذلك لاحقا بالحيوان البهيم من جهة أنه يشغله ذلك عن تحصيل الفضائل و تخفيف المؤن يحث صاحبه على نيل المراتب فإذا آثرت الفضول مع قلة الفضول ـ عدت على ما علمت بالإزراء فشنت علمك و دللت على اختلاط رأيك "
