بريطانيا تتجه لتخفيض قواتها بأفغانستان

أوردت صحيفة ديلي تلغراف في عددها الصادر اليوم الإثنين، أن بريطانيا تتجه لتخفيض عدد قواتها القتالية في أفغانستان بمعدل النصف تقريبا، وإعادتها إلى البلاد خلال العام المقبل.

وسيكشف رئيس الوزراء البريطاني ديفد كاميرون هذا الأسبوع -بحسب الصحيفة- عن إنهاء مشاركة بريطانيا في الحرب الأفغانية من خلال الإعلان عن سحب ما لا يقل عن 4500 جندي، أي ما يعادل نحو نصف القوات البريطانية في أفغانستان، بحلول نهاية الصيف المقبل.

ومن المتوقع أن يتخذ كاميرون هذا القرار -وفق ذات المصدر- خلال إجتماع مجلس الأمن القومي في حكومته المقرر الثلاثاء المقبل لمناقشة الخطوة المقبلة في أفغانستان، وسيقوم رئيس الأركان الجنرال ديفد ريتشاردز خلاله بإطلاع رئيس الوزراء وأعضاء المجلس على السيناريوهات المفضلة لتخفيض القوات.

ونسبت ديلي تلغراف إلى مصدر حكومي قوله "سنقوم بتخفيض عدد القوات البريطانية في أفغانستان إلى ما يتراوح بين أربعة آلاف وستة آلاف جندي بحلول أكثوبر من العام المقبل، لكننا لن نعلن عن أي تخفيض قبل إعلان الولايات المتحدة عن تخفيض عدد قواتها هناك".

وسيغادر 500 جندي بريطاني أفغانستان قبل نهاية هذا العام، مع دخول لندن في نقاشات مع شركائها في منظمة حلف شمال الأطلسي (ناتو) بشأن عدد ونوع القوات التي ستبقى في أفغانستان بعد رحيل القوات الأجنبية من هناك بنهاية عام 2014.

وأشارت الصحيفة إلى أن كاميرون سيتجنب وضع جدول زمني دقيق لإنسحاب القوات البريطانية، جراء تصاعد أجواء التوتر بين السياسيين والقادة العسكريين البريطانيين بشأن طرق تخفيض عدد هذه القوات.

ويعتقد كبار القادة العسكريين البريطانيين أن تخفيض عدد قواتهم في أفغانستان بسرعة كبيرة يمكن أن يعرض للخطر حياة القوات المتبقية في ولاية هلمند، وإفشال إستراتيجية الإنسحاب بأكملها في أسوأ سيناريو.

وتنشر بريطانيا حاليا نحو تسعة آلاف وخمسمائة جندي في أفغانستان معظمهم في ولاية هلمند، قُتل منهم 438 جنديا منذ الغزو الذي قادته الولايات المتحدة عام 2001.
