اعترفت ‬سهى ‬عرفات،‬أرملة ‬الزعيم ‬الفلسطيني ‬الراحل ‬ياسر ‬عرفات، ‬أنها ‬نادمة ‬على ‬قبول ‬زواجها ‬من ‬هذا ‬الأخير، ‬مبينة ‬أنها ‬تعاملت ‬مع ‬الأمر ‬باعتباره "‬قدرا ‬محتوما ‬لا ‬فائدة ‬من ‬رفضه ‬أو ‬مواجهته"!‬
سهى التي تقبض من السلطة الفلسطينية مبلغا شهريا يصل إلى 10 آلاف دولار، نفت أن يكون العقيد الليبي المغتال معمر القذافي قد اشترى لها بيتا فخما في مالطا، وأضافت في تصريحات لوكالة أنباء الأناضول أنها حاولت الانفصال عن عرفات مائة مرة، لكنه منعها من ذلك، وأنها تلقت عشرات العروض بالزواج بعد وفاته، وهو ما يتوافق ع تصريحات سابقة لها، أكدت من خلالها أن بعض تلك العروض جاءتها من رؤساء وملوك عرب.
سهى التي تزوجت من الزعيم الفلسطيني الراحل في السر في 17 جويلية 1990، الموافق عيد ميلادها، وذلك في وقت شهدت فيه المنطقة العربية تطورات دراماتيكية، نتج عنها احتلال الرئيس العراقي السابق، صدّام حسين للكويت، قالت أن الكثيرين رفضوا ذلك الزواج، إذ رأى أصدقاء "أبو عمّار" أن ذلك الزواج من شأنه أن يبعد زعيمهم عن القضية، التي طالما تغنى بزواجه منها، كما لم يتقبلوا أن يكون له حياة خاصة، أسوة بسائر الأشخاص الآخرين.. وتقول سهى: "نعم، كان قدري، فأنا أؤمن بأن قدرنا كتب وقت ولدنا، وأنا أؤمن بالقرآن، وأؤمن أنك لا يمكن أن تغيري قدرك، فقدري المشترك مع عرفات بدأ منذ عهد قديم، منذ عام 1986-1987، حيث كنت مخطوبة في ذلك الوقت لمحام فرنسي، ثم أحببت عرفات، وتزوجنا سرا في تونس، حتى أنني لم ألبس فستان الزفاف وقتها، والدتي عارضت الموضوع، وجاءت على متن طائرة وناقشت عرفات، أما الآن فهمت لماذا عارضت والدتي هذا الزواج، لو أنني كنت أعرف ما سيحل بي لما كنت تزوجت، نعم كنت برفقة زعيم كبير، لكنني كنت وحيدة، فعلاً عشت داخل السياسة مثل حريم السلطان، كنا نشاهد المسلسلات التلفزيونية أنا وابنتي، وأحيانا تسألني: بمن تشبهين نفسك؟
وبخصوص فكرة العائلة، قالت سهى "لم يكن لنا عائلة يوماً ما، تزوجت زعيم الشعب الفلسطيني عندما كنت في الخامسة والعشرين من العمر، أخبرني أنه لم يعشق في حياته سوى امرأتين، الأولى "ندى يصحوريتي"، التي قتلت في بيروت، والثانية أنا".
وعن امكانية زواجها برجل آخر بعد عرفات، تجيب سهى: "من يدري.. قد يكون ذلك، العام القادم سأدخل العقد الخامس من عمري، وأنا الآن لا أفكر إلا بدراسة ابنتي، فابنتي ستنهي السنة المرحلة الثانوية، في الحقيقة إن الزواج ومواصلة الحياة بذلك السياق قد يكون أسهل بكثير، لكن لم أفضل يوماً ان أختار الطريق السهل".
