حكي أن ابنة عمر بن عبد العزيز دخلت عليه تبكي.. وكانت طفلة صغيرة آنذاك.. وكان يوم عيد للمسلمين فـسألها..ماذا يبكيك؟
قالت.. كل الأطفال يرتدون ثياباً جديدة وأنا ابنة أمير المؤمنين أرتدي ثوباً قديماً ..

فـتأثر عمر لبكائها وذهب إلى خازن بيت المال وقال له.. أتأذن لي أن أصرف راتبي عن الشهرالقادم ؟

فقال له الخازن.. ولم يا أمير المؤمنينْ؟

فحكى له عمر

فقال الخازنː.. لا مانع، وَ لكن بشرط .

فقال عمر..وما هو هذا الشرط... ؟؟

فقال الخازن.. أن تضمن لي أن تبقى حياً حتى الشهر القادم لتعمل بالأجر الذي تريد صرفه مسبقا

فتركة عمر وعاد.. فسأله أبنائه.. ماذا فعلت يا أبانا...؟

قال.. أتصبرون و ندخل جميعاً الجنة.. أم لا تصبرون ويدخل أباكم النار؟

قالوا: نصبر يا أبانا!
