التوتر والاجهاد في مكان العمل يمكن أن يزيد من خطر الاصابة بالسكتة القلبية بنسبة 23 بالمائة وفقا لبحث جديد نشر في مجلة لانسيت.
وجمعت الدراسة بين نتائج 13 دراسة مختلفة، وتوصلت الى ان خطر الاصابة بالامراض المتعلقة بالقلب يزيد بشكل كبير من التدخين وقلة الحركة. ولكن التأثير من الاجهاد المرتبط بالعمل لم يكن له تأثير ملحوظ. ويقول الباحثون أنه مع استثناء التوتر الناجم عن العمل، يمكن أن تختفي 3.4 بالمائة من حالات الاصابة بامراض مرتبطة بالقلب، بينما يقلل التوقف عن التدخين الخطر بنسبة 36 بالمائة.
هذا وتوصل الباحثون الى ان مشاعر الاجهاد تنبع من عدم الابداع في العمل، الشعور بعدم الطمأنينة وعدم القدرة على اتخاذ القرارات من الموقع الحالي. وكان التوتر شائعا اكثر بين الاشخاص في الوظائف التي تحتاج الى مهارات يدوية مثل العمال وموظفي المصانع. بينما لا يعاني الاشخاص في المراكز العليا من الاجهاد لأنهم في وظائف تساعدهم على اتخاذ القرارات. فهي تساعدهم على السيطرة على ناتج شيئا ما، مما يجعلهم اكثر هدوءا وثقة بأنفسهم.
ويمكن أن تؤثر مخاطر الصحة القلبية على النساء أكثر. وفقا لدراسة اخرى، اجريت بالتعاون مع بريغهام ومستشفى النساء في بوسطن، وشمل على 17.415 امرأة على مدى 109 سنوات. تبين بأن النساء اللاتي عملن في مهن مجهدة نفسيا كانت لديهن نسبة الاصابة بامراض القلب اكثر من 88 بالمائة و 40 بالمائة أكثر للاصابة بامراض الشرايين مقارنة مع النساء اللاتي عملن في وظائف اقل ضغطا.
وتعاني النساء بشكل خاص من اعراض التوتر والاجهاد أكثر، مثل الم الظهر، الصدر، اضطرابات الامعاء، الغثيان والتعب الشديد. ولكن سواء بين الرجال أو النساء، كان السؤال الاهم هو العلاج المستخدم لتهدئة هذه الاعراض. عندما يشعر الناس باعراض الاجهاد فهم غالبا ما يلئجون الى عادات سيئة مثل الافراط في التدخين أو الافراط في الاكل. هذه الحلول قصيرة الامد يمكن أن تسبب تأثيرات صحية سيئة على المدى البعيد اكثر من الاجهاد نفسه. بدلا من ذلك ينصح بالابتعاد عن مسببات الاجهاد لبعض الوقت، وعدم الانجراف وراء التدخين أو الاكل.
