التنوع البيئي
يضحك البعض عندما يقرأ خبرا عن انقراض نوع من الفراشات أو الزواحف و يتصوروا هؤلاء أن حديث علماء البيئة عن المخاطر التي ينطوي عليها انقراض الأنواع ترف لأناس لا يعلمون شيئا عن المعاناة الحقيقية للبشر، فماذا يساوي انقراض فراشات أو زواحف أمام معاناة ملايين البشر الذين يعضهم الجوع أو تشردهم الفيضانات أو الكوارث الطبيعية ؟
لكنا نقول لهؤلاء إنهم مخطئون تماما بهذه النظرية القاصرة ، فاختفاء الأنواع ليس مسالة رهافة قلب أو رقة إحساس ، و إنما هي اختفاء عالم بأكمله و حرمان البشرية من ثروة طبيعية . فالحياة على الأرض توازنت في ظل وجود هذه الأنواع ، و كلما اختفي نوع منها ازداد الخلل الذي يحدثه الإنسان في الطبيعة .
