في الوقت الذي تدعو فيه المنظمات العالمية إلى محاربة السمنة المتفشية في العالم، نجد بالمقابل من يبحث عن زيادة الوزن والسمنة وخاصة بين النساء المقبلات على الزواج اللاتي يعتقدن أن نحافتهن الشديدة سوف تقف حجر عثرة في وجه إبراز فتنتهن، وأيضا المتزوجات الساعيات إلى إرضاء أزواجهن الباحثين عن الأجساد الممتلئة، أو حتى بعض الفتيات الراغبات في تحسين قوامهن بزيادة الوزن، وفي توجه جديد لجأت بعض النساء والفتيات في السنوات الأخيرة إلى أساليب غير صحية لزيادة أوزانهن والحصول على قوام ممتلئ، عبر تناول خلطات من الأدوية التي من شأنها زيادة الوزن بشكل سريع ولكن بمقابل أكثر كلفة، ومن هذه العقاقير الأقراص الصينية، حبوب الديكزون (علبة ذهبية 100 حبة ) وبعض الهرمونات وأدوية الحساسية والاكتئاب وبعض الخلطات مجهولة المصدر وغير المرخصة
