توفي الرئيس الأسبق للمجلس الأعلى للدولة علي كافي صبيحة اليوم الثلاثاء بجنيف عن عمر ناهز 85 سنة، بعد أن نقل إلى هناك عشية الإثنين الماضي بعد تدهور حالته الصحية والمجلس الأعلى للدولة الهيئة التنفيذية الذي شغلت منصب رئيس الجمهورية عند التوقيف الاضطراري للمسار الانتخابي مع الفراغ الدستوري الذي أحدثته استقالة الرئيس الأسبق الشاذلي بن جديد، وكان على كافي ثاني رئيس للمجلس بعد محمد بوضياف الذي اغتيل في آخر جوان 1992.
علي كافي (7 أكتوبر 1928 -2013) ولد بالحروش بولاية سكيكدة. بدأ دراسته بالمدرسة الكتانية في قسنطينة وكان معه بالمدرسة هواري بومدين.
كان عضوا في حزب الشعب وساهم بالنضال فيه حتى أصبح مسؤول خلية ومن بعدها مسئول مجموعة. بعام 1953 عين مدرسا من طرف حزبه في مدرسة حرة بسكيكدة. ساهم بالثورة الجزائرية منذ اتصاله بديدوش مراد في نوفمبر 1954وكانت بداية مشاركته على مستوى مدينة سكيكدة وبعدها التحق بجبال الشمال القسنطيني. وشارك في معارك أغسطس 1955 تحت قيادة زيغود يوسف. وفي أوت 1956 شارك في مؤتمر الصومام حيث كان عضوا مندوبا عن المنطقة الثانية. وقام بقيادة المنطقة الثانية بين أعوام 1957 و1959. وفي مايو 1959 التحق بتونس حيث دخل في عداد الشخصيات العشر التي قامت بتنظيم الهيئتين المسيرتين للثورة (الحكومة المؤقتة للجمهورية الجزائرية والمجلس الوطني للثورة الجزائرية).
بعد الاستقلال عين سفيرا للجزائر في تونس ثم مصر وبعدها سوريا ولبنان والعراق وإيطاليا. في يناير 1992، عين عضوا في المجلس الأعلى للدولة ثم رئيسا له في 2 جويلية وذلك بعد اغتيال محمد بوضياف.
