استخدام الكمبيوتر والهواتف الذكية خلال الليل يقلل النوم

حذر الطبيب تشارلز كيزلر، رئيس قسم طب النوم في مستشفى "بريجهام آند وومن" الأميركية، من أن النظر في شاشات الحواسيب والهواتف الذكية والتلفزيون خلال فترة المساء يتسبب في نقص النوم، ما يزيد من مخاطر التعرض لمشاكل صحية عدة منها البدانة والاكتئاب وأمراض القلب والسكتة الدماغية.
وبحسب مقال كيزلر في مجلة "نيتشر" العلمية، فإن التعرض للضوء الكهربائي في أوقات الليل، الذي يُفترض أن يكون وقت النوم الطبيعي، هو السبب الأهم في حدوث نقص واضطراب النوم، بالرغم من وجود عوامل أخرى أحدثها نظام الحياة المعاصرة الذي يتحرك على مدار أربع وعشرين ساعة طوال أيام الأسبوع، مثل الاستيقاظ مبكراً للعمل والدراسة، والإفراط في تناول الكافيين، والرحلات الطويلة.
ويقول: "وكنتيجة لذلك، يُواصل كثير من الناس قراءة البريد الإلكتروني أو أداء الواجبات أو مشاهدة التلفزيون في منتصف الليل".
ويقلل التعرض للضوء الاصطناعي من راحة الجسم خلال الليل بتثبيطه نشاط الخلايا العصبية المسؤولة عن النوم مع تنشيط الخلايا المسؤولة عن اليقظة، بجانب إعاقة إفراز هرمون النوم المعروف باسم "الميلاتونين"، كما يؤثر على الخلايا الحساسة للضوء في العين، وتؤدي هذه العوامل معاً إلى اضطراب الساعة البيولوجية أو الحيوية للجسم، والتي تضطلع بتنظيم أوقات النوم والاستيقاظ.
ويرى كيزلر أن التكنولوجيا تتسبب في إبعادنا عن نمط اليوم الطبيعي الذي يلائم أجسامنا، ويعتقد أن انتشار الإضاءة الاصطناعية والزيادة المستمرة في استهلاكها أدى إلى شيوع نقص النوم؛ حيث يرتبط انخفاض تكلفة توفير الإضاءة بزيادة استهلاك الفرد لها. فابتداء من مطلع الخمسينات من القرن العشرين وحتى نهايته تراجعت تكلفة إنتاج الضوء ستة مرات في المملكة المتحدة، وفي المقابل تضاعف نصيب الفرد من استهلاك الضوء بمعدل أربع مرات.
وهو ما يتفق مع رأي ديرك - جان ديجك، مدير مركز أبحاث النوم في جامعة "سري" البريطانية، الذي يعتقد بتأثير التعرض للضوء الاصطناعي في فترات المساء على تقليل الميل للنعاس؛ فأصبحت تصرفات الناس هي العامل الرئيسي في تحديد وقت النوم، بعكس الماضي حين كان دوران الأرض حول محورها، والذي يتحكم في الليل والنهار، هو المحدد الأول.
وتشير بعض الدراسات إلى تراجع عدد ساعات النوم لكثير من الأشخاص في السنوات الأخيرة. وبحسب استطلاع نشر العام الماضي كان متوسط ساعات نوم 30% من الموظفين، و44% من العاملين في الفترات المسائية في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية أقل من ست ساعات كل ليلة، وهو ما يختلف كثيراً عن الوضع قبل خمسين عاماً؛ إذ كان نحو 3% فقط من سكان الولايات المتحدة ينامون قليلاً. كما أفاد 5% من الموظفين البريطانيين بنومهم أقل من خمس ساعات في الليلة.
وعالمياً ينام الأطفال في الوقت الحاضر خلال الأيام الدراسية أقل مما كان الوضع عليه قبل مئة عام بمعدل1.2 ساعة. ويرى كيزلر أن قلة النوم لدى الأطفال تدفعهم للاستيقاظ ولا تزيد من شعورهم بالنعاس، كما تتسبب في ضعف تركيزهم. ويرجح أن يكون نقص النوم ضمن الأسباب المؤدية لما يعرف باسم متلازمة "اضطراب نقص الانتباه وفرط النشاط"، والتي يعاني منها 19% من الفتيان الأميركيين في المرحلة الثانوية.
ويتوقع كيزلر ارتفاع عدد الأشخاص الذين يعانون من نقص النوم في المستقبل بسبب زيادة تعرضهم للضوء، الذي يستحوذ وحده على 19% من الميزانيات المخصصة لتوليد الكهرباء حول العالم، واتجاه الكثير من الدول لإحلال المصابيح الثنائية الباعثة للضوء "ليد"، والتي تستخدم على نطاق واسع في كثير من شاشات التلفزيون والحواسيب والهواتف الذكية، محل المصابيح التقليدية ذات الإضاءة المتوهجة.:
