ذكروا أن سليمان كان جالساً على شاطىء بحر ، فبصر بنملة تحمل حبة قمح تذهب بها نحو البحر ، فجعل سليمان ينظر إليها حتى بلغت الماء فإذا بضفدعة قد أخرجت رأسها من الماء ، ففتحت فاها فدخلت النملة وغاصت الضفدعة فى البحر ساعات طويلة ، وسليمان يتفكر فى ذلك متعجباً . ثم خرجت الضفدعة من الماء وفتحت فاها فخرجت النملة ولم يكن معها الحبة ، فدعاها سليمان عليه السلام وسألها وشأنها وأين كانت ؟
فقالت : يا نبىّ الله ، إن فى قعر البحر الذى تراه صخرة مجوَّفة وفى جوفها دودة عمياء ، وقد خلقها الله تعالى هنالك ، فلا تقدر أن تخرج منها لطلب معاشها ، وقد وكلنى الله برزقها . فأنا
أحمل رزقها ، وسخر الله تعالى هذه الضفدعة لتحملنى فلا يضرنى الماء فى فيها ، وتضع فاها على ثقب الصخرة وأدخلها ، ثم إذا أوصلت رزقها إليها وخرجت من ثقب الصخرة إلى فيها فتخرجنى من البحر
فقال سليمان عليه السلام : وهل سمعتِ لها من تسبيحة ؟ قالت : نعم
تقول يا من لا ينسانى فى جوف هذه اللجة برزقك لا تنس عبادك المؤمنين برحمتك

ومن قصص سليمان ايضا مع النمل انه خرج مرة يستسقي مع قومه - اي يطلب ماء - فشاهد نملة رافعة قوامها الى السماء وهي تقول : - اللهم انا خلق من خلقك ولا غنى بنا عن سقياك فقال سليمان : ارجعوا لقد سقيتم بدعوة غيركم -
