Facebook SeenBlock for Chrome is a useful extension for anyone who wants to remove the "seen" and "is typing" messages from appearing in the Facebook chat. The add-on allows you to disable both blocks by using the address bar button.
These preferences are valid both in the chat and in the message inbox in order to give you the freedom to mark the messages as read when you need to.
