Cacti have wonderful ability to live in the desert, they can stay alive for years in the scorching desert sun without water. Cacti have no leaves, which reduces evaporation of water. They is covered with thorns to reduce exposure to sun and protect them from animals that feed on them, with the exception of camel that can eat thorny cactus then abstract the thorns from its mouth.

لنبات الصبار قدرة عجيبة على تحمل المعيشة في الصحراء فهو يستطيع البقاء حياً لسنين في شمس الصحراء الحارقة بدون ماء. وليس للصبار أوراق مما يقلل تبخر المياه وهو مغطى بالأشواك التي تقلل من تعرضهِ للشمس وتحميهِ من الحيوانات التي تقتات عليه، باستثناء الجمل الذي يستطيع أكلهُ بأشواكهِ ثم يستخرجها من فمهِ لاحقاً.

Cactus trunk works as a store of water, it fattens with an abundance of water and shrinks in the dry periods. Cactus body is covered with a waxy layer to reduce evaporation and when it rains to make the water slip to the ground to be absorbed by the roots. Some cacti have deep roots that reach groundwater and others have roots that grow sideways for long distances to collect rain water. There is a kind of giant cactus capable of absorbing 3,000 liters of water in ten days.
Cactus flowers are beautiful, colorful and come in shapes and formats; tubular, bell-shaped or wheel shaped. They come in different sizes up to 30 cm.

جذوع الصبار تعمل كمخزن للمياة إذ تنتفخ مع وفرة المياه وتنكمش في فترة الجفاف وجسمه مغطى بطبقة شمعية تقلل تبخر المياه وعند سقوط الأمطار تنزلق المياه على الطبقة الشمعية. إلى الأرض فلا تتبخر بل تمتصها الجذور بعضها له جذور عميقة لتصل إلى المياه الجوفية والبعض الآخر له جذور تنمو بسرعة فائقة وتمتد أفقياً لمسافات شاسعة عند هطول الأمطار لتجميع المياه. ويوجد نوع من الصبار العملاق يستطيع امتصاص 3,000 لتر من المياه في عشرة أيام.
زهور الصبار جميلة وذات ألوان جذابة.وبعضعا وبأشكال متعددة بعضها أنبوبي أو شكل جرس أو عجلة و بأحجام مختلفة يصل بعضها إلى 30 سم.
